What is joystick drift?

Drift is non-neutral stick input reported while the stick is intended to rest. The visible symptom may depend on calibration, dead-zone settings, input software and the hardware’s return and sensor behaviour. Repeat observations under stated conditions before assigning a cause.

Does increasing the dead zone repair drift?

It may suppress small reported movements in a particular application. That changes how software responds; it does not, by itself, prove that the physical mechanism or sensor has been repaired. Record the setting and compare with a baseline.

How many button presses should a controller last?

There is no useful universal count without a defined button, force, travel, cycle rate, environment, sample size and failure criterion. A controlled endurance result describes the tested samples under that protocol, not a guaranteed calendar lifespan for every player.

What does button failure mean?

It can mean missed or intermittent registration, inconsistent actuation, poor return, or another specified endpoint. Cosmetic wear and perceived feel should be reported separately unless the test explicitly combines them.

How should controller latency be compared?

First define the start and stop events. Keep platform, connection, software and measurement method consistent; repeat trials and report variation. A controller-only result and a press-to-screen result include different portions of the system.

Is polling rate the same as input latency?

No. A reporting interval can influence part of a signal path, but total response also includes sensing, transport, host and game processing, and potentially display presentation. A nominal rate is not a direct end-to-end measurement.

Can one controller shape be objectively the most comfortable?

Not for every person and task. Reach, posture, grip pressure, hand size, surface, session length and familiarity all affect experience. Report who tested it, what task they performed and how individual responses varied.

Do your close-up images prove a component has failed?

No. The images are contextual illustrations of mechanisms and surfaces. They are not test results or evidence of a specific device’s internal condition.

How can I send a test observation?

Use the Bench Note tool on the contact page to prepare a plain-text draft. You can copy it or download it; it is not sent automatically.

A useful claim names its conditions, repeats the observation and states what remains uncertain. See the four topic guides for detailed protocols.
